Hello, my name is Philip and i have a problem with the car since yesterday, it won't start when i switch the ignition key on to actually start the engine, the lights go off in the dashboard instead and nothing happens. I've tried the spare key, no results, there's no flashing as when the anti-theft system kicks in.

Before this we've changed the left turning signal bulb and the plastic in the actual buld melted, maybe this could cause the problem?

The starter motor is working, the car is turning over if the relay is bypassed in the fusebox, all of the fuses seem to be okay? I can't find the right electrical diagram for the car...

Any suggestions? Thank you!

i've posted a ODB diagnostic test, it showed up some errors. I've noticed another thing that the 'service vehicle soon' light stays on and the low fuel light stays on aswell.

A couple things. If the key isn't recognized as being the proper key, it takes 3 minutes before you can try again, if you try any key during that 3 minutes the timer starts over, also if you disconnect the battery the timer will start over once the battery is reconnected. As far as the codes, B1004 this code means the KAM has been reset, this is a normal code that you will get when you disconnect the battery. B2957 indicates an improper key inserted, or value out of range. U1000 is loss of serial data communication with a module. U1016, if i'm reading this right means loss of communication from the PCM. Disconnecting the battery with the key in the ignition can also cause the U1000 & U1016 to show up, or disconnecting the battery before the module goes to sleep. My first thought is something is wrong with the ignition switch, a fairly common issue for GM for these year cars. Also have you tried swapping the crank relay with another one from under the hood?

Thank you for the reply!

I've managed to sort the car out, i didn't realise that there was a second fusebox in the actual dashboard, maybe because i was tired or something, because i've started to check the circuits with the multimeter, to see where the electricity goes...got lost in the details, stripped the steering colum to gain acces to the igntion key assembly(after i've read on the web about the common problem with the ignition switch).

There were two fuses blown in the dashboard fusebox(which i didin't know of...shame on me!), one of which it was from the PCM (10A). I think that the LED lightbulb has shorted the system and has blown a couple of fuses(the pcm and some other one). After i've changed them fuses and everything was back to normal. Some things you learn in the hard(dumb) way, lol.

Yes, i've tested the relays and they were working fine...

Anyways, problem solved, lesson learned! This one can come in handy for the other members/guys when you'll be changing your standard turning signal bulb with a more fancy one on LED.

But i don't understand, why the PCM fuse has blown if the turning signal has been shorted? It dosen't make sense... is it because of the daylight illumination? That's the only thing i cand think of...

Thank you for posting the solution. Glad to hear you were able to fix it without having to replace the ignition switch. One possibility about the leds (speculation), the turn signal bulb is a dual filament bulb. If the led had two contacts instead of three maybe even 4 it could backfeed into the other components and possibly blow the fuses associated with the collective circuitry by trying to power circuits that it's not intended to power.

Im having a similar problem with my 2004 Regal the start is good the battery is brand new and the alternator is good but still only clicks once when i try to crank it. I was able to jump off my old battery and even had it charged and the car would start up 1 to 2 times before the battery would die because it was bad so i replaced it and installed a new battery. It wouldn't anything except one single click. So i check the alternator it was good and the starter turn over perfectly so there has to be a connection problem somewhere but i cant find it. Ive looked through all my fuses in the dash and under the hood, and they all seem to be fine. Any advice for me??

I'm having a similar problem with my 03 Regal. Have a brand new battery, so I know that isn't the problem. Everytime I turn the key to start it, everything goes dead, the radio, the ac blower, and all the lights on the dash, EXCEPT, the "check engine soon" light. Any suggestions?
